“Windows to your soul…”
What feeds your soul?
Life brings so many different twists and turns, so much so, that when we least expect it, we can be left wondering how did I get here? What was I doing? And eventually those questions lead us into the most pertinent question…am I happy here? What a wonderful thing to acknowledge..
I’ve always been the creative type, one who loves getting their hands dirty, and finding a solution in the most resourceful way. I think thats why I love being a hairstylist for so many different reasons. As a stylist, I’ll admit, it’s been tough at times. It can be demanding, there can be long days without any breaks, and there can be days when you feel defeated and ready to give up. But, out of all my experiences throughout the years, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve learned so much both personally and professionally. As I look back at my career, I’ve realized, it’s constantly been pushing me to do better, express myself confidently, and share my creativity with anyone willing.
I wanted to share a part of me that helps to reset my mind, and adds fuel to my fire. I graduated from the Wella Master Color Expert program, and our final exams had me diving deep into how I work. What inspires me most? And how does it relate to the work I do behind the chair? Hoping to give you a little more insight of who I am…..
As being someone who lives and breathes for color, I find my time behind a canvas most inspiring. My mind gets lost in color, and this flow of creativity feeds my soul. Painting allows me to be free from thought, free from worry, and connected to my self.
I find a lot of my inspiration in my paintings comes from the color I see around me in nature. The color of a sunset, the depth in the clouds, light reflecting off the ocean, or the texture in the landscape. Beautiful scenes all around have become imprinted in my mind, and give me guidance with my creativity.
As a stylist, my time behind the chair most often comes from the inspiration I get from painting. Creating depth and dimension within the hair directly stems from the knowledge I’ve gained through painting.
Those who know me best, know that painting has always been an outlet for me to express myself. Being a self taught painter, I spent a lot of my days watching Bob Ross videos and reading books that described the importance of color, shading, and hues to create realistic landscapes on the canvas. And without having the knowledge of all these small details, I simply wouldn’t see hair color the way that I do. Now every time I have a chance to create something new with hair, it’s like perfecting a piece of art…only science, and chemistry are involved, but thats a whole other topic.
